Ponche Navideno Con Vino (Mexican Holiday Punch With Wine)

Warm and cozy this Ponche Navideno is tradition in a mug. Loaded with various fruit simmered in a aromatic base of cinnamon, prunes, orange peel and piloncillo. Everything releases their natural sweetness the end result is sweet tart and so flavorful. It is served warm and the fruit is enjoyed just as much as the drink itself.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Liters Water
  • 1 Bottle California Red Wine
  • 2 sticks Cinnamon
  • 1 Cone Pilocillo 8oz or dark brown sugar
  • 6 Fresh guavas
  • 1 C Dried hibiscus
  • 10 pcs Tecojotes (Mexican hawthorn fruit) or pear
  • 3/4 C California dried Prunes
  • 6 2" pieces Fresh Sugarcane
  • 3 Medium Apples
  • 2 2"pieces Orange peel

Method
 

  1. In a large pot begin by bringing the water to a boil adding in the cinnamon sticks and piloncillo until it dissolves.
  2. Add in the prunes, hibiscus, orange peel and tejocotes. Simmer for about 10 min on medium heat.
  3. Add in the rest of the fruit guavas, apple, sugarcane and let them simmer for another 15 minutes. Remove from heat and add in the bottle of Red California wine.
  4. Serve while it is still warm. Load a variety of the fruit into a mug topping it off with the ponche. Enjoy!
